Adventure in the Peruvian Amazon

Assistance at your arrival to Lima International Airport and transfer to your Hotel. There you will receive a briefing on your tour; receive vouchers covering all the services included in your tour and additional information on the organization of your Peru trip.

Breakfast in the hotel
PM Modern Lima We will begin our tour visiting the modern suburbs of San Isidro and Miraflores where we will see the Financial Center, the San Isidro Golf Course and the Olive Grove Park. We will also go by the Huaca Pucllana, a pre-inca pyramid shape temple that has survived the expansion of modern civilization. We will stop at Parque del Amor (Love Park) and enjoy a nice view of the Pacific Ocean, as we drive down the Miraflores Malecon, a road along the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Colonial Lima
We will visit downtown Lima`s historical center, designated by Unesco as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1991. In this journey we will enjoy what once was the center of the 16th century Spanish colony. We will see the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop`s Palace, the City Hall and the Desamparados Train Station. We will also see Plaza San Martin, a large park surrounded by old colonial buildings still displaying beautiful carved wood balconies and other landmarks.

San Francisco Monastery and Catacombs
We shall visit the San Francisco Monastery and its famous underground crypts known as the Catacombs. At the end of the tour you will have a choice to either shop at the Indian Market, Larcomar Mall or return to your hotel.

Transfer to Lima Airport for flight to Arequipa.

Reception and transfer to hotel. We visit the Santa Catalina Monastery, Plaza de Armas, the Jesuit Church “La Compa Compañia”, its cloisters and domes, the Tristan del Pozo House, Yanahuara neighborhood (vantaje point and Church), having an amazing view of the visit the typical city districts of high and Yanahuara Carmen. Overnight in Arequipa.

LOST COCHA
After breakfast, continue by land on your excursion towards the Colca Valley driving across Pampa Cañahuas at the Aguada Blanca National Reserve, habitat of herds of Vicuñas and stopping at the Mirador de los Andes, the Crater of Chucura, the Mirador de Chivay, where beautiful pre-Columbian terraces still being cultivated by native Collaguas can be observed. The highest point of the road is at 4350 m.a.s.l. Arrival to the Town of Chivay at 13:00hrs. approx. Transfer to your selected Lodge. lunch. In the afternoon free time to visit Hot Spring Thermal and Medicinal Baths.

Early in the morning departure to the “Condor’s Cross” from where the great Andean bird, the Condor, may be spotted flying in circles above still farmed green pre-Hispanic terraces. Enjoy the impressive panorama of the Colca Canyon, one of the deepest in the World (3,180 mts.). On the way back to Chivay, visit to the Mirador of Chinina, where we will find the famous Hanging Tombs and the Hanging Bridge of Sifón that joins the Town of Yanque with Coporaque. At the Town of Yanque, visit its beautiful church and its characteristic cobbled stone streets among other attractions. To have spectacular views of the Colca Valley, we will drive to the observation points of Choquetipo and Artahuilque and also to the Town of Maca. After lunch at a local restaurant, return to the City of Arequipa, arriving at 18:00hrs. Approx. Overnight at selected hotel.

After breakfast transfer to the airport to board the flight to Cusco.

Breakfast at the hotel. Early in the morning our guided visit to the Sacred Valley will take place. We will start the tour departing through the fertile countryside, arriving to the colonial town of Pisac, where a colorful market will welcome us, continuing our route through the valley, passing by typical town, till getting to the archaeological province of Urubamba to try a delicious lunch buffet.

After we will visit an ancient but enigmatic Ollantaytambo Fortress located in a typical Inca town, composed by numerous temples and terraces. This archaeological complex is one of the biggest monumental exposures that the Inca have ever done.

Overnight in the Sacred Valley. Lodging at the hotel.

The day starts with an early morning rise to transfer to Cusco train station for a 3 ½ hour train journey to the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, also known as “The Lost City of the Incas”. Arrive at Aguas Calientes station followed by a 30-minute bus drive, climbing 6km of winding road, to the incredible MACHU PICCHU. Upon arrival, we’ll participate in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and various burial grounds. After the tour you will have time to stroll around the archaeological site at your leisure. Llunch at a local restaurant in Aguas Calientes Town. Afternoon return to Cusco Overnight in Cusco.

Note: When operational or technical reasons obligate the Train Operator to relocate the clients onto the Sacred Valley-Aguas Calientes train service or viceversa, Best Peru Tours will provide all transfers needed to the train station in the Sacred Valley in order to board the train to Aguas Calientes or viceversa.

Transfer to Lima Airport for flight to Puerto Maldonado.

Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, Peru’s Capital City of Biodiversity, we will welcome you at the airport. Then, we’ll start our program with a visit around the city, on a bus.

Afterwards, we will go to Puerto Capitanía, to board a motorized riverboat, and we’ll navigate on the Madre de Dios River. During the journey, we will submerge into a fascinating natural environment, if we are lucky we will witness Ronsocos, Caimans, Turtles, Herons, Cormorants and other animal species in their natural environment.

Arriving at the Ecoamazonia Lodge, we will enjoy an exquisite welcome drink, we’ll get settled in our bungalows and will have lunch together.

CAIMÁN COCHA
After lunch you will be conducted by our specialized tour guide through an interpretive trail conveniently signposted to the Caimán Cocha, a small lake with an abundant presence of specimens of Black Caiman (Melanosuchus Niger) and Caiman (Caiman Crocodilus).

At the end of the evening, you will witness the spectacular sunset in the Amazon, an experience full of intensities overwhelming color ranges.

Upon returning to the Lodge, a delicious dinner will await you, and enjoy free time to share unforgettable moments at the bar, equipped with an excellent game room and all the drinks you can imagine.

LOST COCHA
After breakfast, we will start an adventure in the virgin rainforest, and accompanied by a local guide, we’ll go on a hike in the deep jungle, to get to the Lost Cocha which constitutes a refuge and feeding ecosystem for a huge variety of animals. There, we’ll have the chance to observe Otters, Caimans, Turtles, Sachavacas (Tapirs) Birds with multicolored feathers, the majestic Jaguar and a variety of fish species. This area is unique and proper to the Ecoamazonia’s Ecological Reserve which maintains it intact, with huge swamps and diverse “aguajales”.

Then, we’ll get to the extraordinary Observation Deck, from which we’ll be able to appreciate the immense and magical rainforest. Afterwards, we’ll have a pleasant canoe ride around the lake and will return to the lodge for lunch.

MONKEY ISLAND
In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialized guide, we will visit Monkey Island, a unique place in the heart of Madre de Dios River, five minutes away from the Lodge. During the hike, we will observe extraordinary landscapes, with an exuberant flora, sheltering a variety of monkey species, in their natural habitat, such as Maquisapas, Capuchins, Small Lion Monkeys, Frailes, Cotos and other animal species like the Coati and Sloths and a great variety of birds.

Finally, we’ll complete our visit of the island, enjoying the sunset, with the most impressive dusk in the jungle. Back to the lodge we conclude the day with a pleasant dinner.

After a restful night’s sleep, the morning begins with the sound of beautiful birdsongs from the Amazon Paradise. In our dining room awaits a farewell breakfast before embarking the return to Puerto Maldonado Transfer to the airport to board the flight to Lima.
