I have rave reviews for this tour company. Every step of the way, they did all they had committed to and more. David was terrific in setting up the tour. I got immediate responses to all enquiries, and everything he told us was gospel. When I made last minute changes on my itinerary, he made certain that those changes were effected.
The staff in Peru was sensational! When our flight arrived two and a half hours late, there was someone at the airport to welcome us who accompanied us to our hotel. And we were the only people on that flight he was waiting for. At every step of the trip, we had a live person at hand to make sure we got to where we were going.
We had terrific guides at each site. I believe a couple may have been university professors working during vacations. I always was learning something new, and given relevant insights into the cathedrals and ruins (which were, as I expected, awe inspiring).
The hotels were as described. Breakfasts were uniformly good. I had an upgrade to the El Mapi Hotel in Machu Picchu. In hindsight, although the service there was wonderful, I thought the room itself and the additional dinner were not worth the cost of the upgrade.
The only difficult portion of the trip was with Peru Airlines. We had a flight arranged to Lima from Cusco, but ended up being delayed a couple of times, ultimately spent 4 hours in the airport at Cusco, and so missed the half day excursion we had in Lima. Other flights were in and out of the airport, so it wasn’t delayed by weather. I actually never heard any reason for the delays. I spoke with other tourists at the airport who had similar or worse problems with Peruvian Airlines. I was reimbursed by the airlines for my losses, but may never have the opportunity to see Lima, one of the principal reasons I had gone on the trip. (I will add, the Best Peru Tours guide, amazingly, was waiting for me the entire 4 hours while we were delayed, and then made certain we were compensated for our lost excursion. He went way beyond the call of duty. I never expected anyone to be waiting at the airport that long to help us.)
Finally, I talked to people with other tour groups on the trip. While they were satisfied with the services they received, they were amazed by the fantastic treatment we got with Best Tours. Thanks to the entire staff. You did a wonderful job!
